Your Guide to At-Home Coffee with At-Home Barista @CosetteCutie

Deja brew! Our at-home barista aficionado Cosette is back for more sip-sational coffee centric tips – this time, she’s showing us how to create some of the most popular brew-tastic drinks, right in the comfort of your own home.

If you didn’t catch our previous blog with Cosette, be sure to read up and learn how to start an at-home coffee setup for every skill level and how Cosette began her plant-based milk journey.

Latte

We’re starting off with a classic – the latte! This espresso drink is an all-time fav for good reason—its versatility means you can enjoy it hot or iced. Whichever way you crave it, you’re gonna love it a-latte. Plus, it’s the perfect vehicle to show off your latte art skills.

What Goes into a Latte?

“A latte is made with espresso, steamed milk, and sweetener like sugar or syrup. Lattes are my favourite drink because they’re creamy but you can still taste that rich espresso. I enjoy them both iced and hot, and with different syrups, the flavour combinations are endless!”

What Plant-Based Milks are Best for Lattes?

“For hot lattes, I love using Earth’s Own Oat Barista—it froths beautifully and makes the creamiest drinks! For iced lattes, I go for Earth’s Own Oat Original. The flavour is amazing, and it’s my go-to for most iced drinks.”

Hot Tip

“When sweetening your lattes, whether hot or iced, add your sugar or syrup to the espresso shot glass before brewing. The hot espresso dissolves the sugar for a sweet, smooth sip every time.”

Cappuccino

Cappuccino Cosette

Next up, the cappuccino. Another classic, the cappuccino is the ultimate refined brew with rich and creamy notes. Combining equal parts espresso, milk, and foam, each part of the coffee has a chance to shine, all in one cup!

What Goes into a Cappuccino?

“A cappuccino has espresso, milk, and optional sweetener, like a latte, but it’s stronger and has more foam. You’ll often see it with a dusting of cocoa powder on top.”

What Plant-Based Milks are Best for Cappuccinos?

“Since cappuccinos have more foam, I love using Earth’s Own Soy Barista. It gives me the fluffiest foam—silky, creamy, and almost cloud-like.”

Hot Tip

“Traditionally, cappuccinos are topped with cocoa powder, but I suggest trying a sprinkle of cinnamon instead, especially in the colder months. The combination of the fluffy foam, strong espresso, and cinnamon is warm and comforting.”

Flat White

If you’re fresh to the coffee scene, a flat white might be new to you! If you haven’t tried one before, this simple and bold espresso wonder is worth a shot (get it?).

What Goes into a Flat White?

“Flat whites are so underrated! They’re similar to lattes and cappuccinos but use less foam and are often made with a ristretto shot, which is stronger and more intense than a regular espresso. It’s the boldest of the three drinks.”

What Plant-Based Milks are Best for Flat Whites?

“I like using Oat Barista in my flat whites. Since you don’t want too much foam, I don’t froth the milk for as long as I would for a cappuccino or latte.”

Hot Tip

“Try your flat white with a ristretto shot for a bolder, slightly sweeter flavour. If you prefer an even sweeter taste, try it with a light roast.”

Macchiato

Macchiato Cosette

When you think of a macchiato, you might think of the world-famous and much-loved caramel macchiato (with a drizzle on top, of course). But the original macchiato is quite different – no caramel required!

What Goes into a Macchiato?

“A traditional macchiato is much simpler than an iced caramel macchiato. It’s just a shot of espresso with a small amount of steamed milk and a dollop of foam. The iced caramel version is made with milk, vanilla syrup, and caramel drizzle.”

What Plant-Based Milks are Best for Macchiatos?

“For traditional macchiatos, I love using Soy Barista for that perfect foam. For iced caramel macchiatos, I prefer Oat Vanilla or Almond Vanilla for an extra boost of vanilla flavour.”

Hot Tip

“Since a traditional macchiato is mostly espresso, make sure you’re using fresh, high-quality beans. If your machine doesn’t have a grinder, there are so many great, affordable options out there. Get fresh beans from a local coffee shop for the best flavour.”

Frappe

A frappe is the ultimate summer drink …Who are we kidding, we know this is a year-round fav! And luckily, it’s quite easy to make these oh-so sweet n’ creamy drinks, right at home.

What Goes into a Frappe?

“There are many different types of frappes, and they’re all so delicious and refreshing. A traditional Greek frappe is made with instant coffee, water, sugar, and milk, similar to whipped coffee. Most people think of frappes as frozen coffee drinks, which I make with frozen coffee cubes, milk, and syrup.”

What Plant-Based Milks are Best for Frappes?

“I love using Oat Original for frappes because it gives them a deliciously creamy texture. If I want it even sweeter, I add a splash of Earth’s Own French Vanilla Oat Coffee Creamer.”

Hot Tip

“Frappes are super versatile! Try adding Earth’s Own Oat Chocolate for a dessert-like frappe that’s both indulgent and refreshing.”

Brew Your Own!

With so many coffee types to choose from, there’s something for everyone to sip ‘n savour. The fun thing about making coffee at home is that you’re free to try as many variations as you want! It’s a fun way to explore new flavour profiles and find your new coffee go-to.
